DISTINGUISHING JOB CHARACTERISTICS:
The Criminal Justice Services Supervisor is a first-line supervisory position and serves as liaison between line staff and administration. The incumbent assumes responsibility for day-to-day operations and supervision of a team of Probation Officers. The Supervisor is the first line of communication for after-hour emergencies. Each Supervisor may typically be reassigned at any time or required to temporarily fill in at the discretion of the Court.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Maintains responsibility for a team of Probation Officers and support staff engaged in providing supervision to Court-ordered offenders.
2. Assigns Court-referred cases, ensures equalization of work, establishes work priorities, reviews completed work, and provides direction. Staffs all sentencing recommendations and arrests with Probation Officers and develops and implements office and field coverage schedules.
3. Monitors and approves sick and vacation leave to ensure office coverage. Completes probationary and annual performance evaluations on all team members and maintains responsibility for first-line disciplinary actions. Approves leave requests. Resolves complaints. Serves on interviewing committee to participate in hiring or promoting of staff. Provides training and orientation to new and promoted staff and works with the Probation Manager in establishing training agenda.
4. Monitors show-up records to look for arrest of offenders and ensure that appropriate action is taken to address the arrest and possible new charges. Reviews probationers’ participation and attendance at all Court-sponsored programs.
5. Conducts case audits to ensure adherence to probation standards according to the Case Management Classification System Guidelines.
6. Attends community meetings to promote and maintain public relations and understanding.
7. Reviews investigative reports for accuracy and appropriateness of content, format and recommendation. Proofs all work submitted by team members and signs off on all final reports. SCOPE OF SUPERVISION:
This position supervises several Probation Officers (including Senior and Associate POs).
Vehicle, computer, telephone, fax machine, Dictaphone, copier, handcuffs, breathalyzer, audio-visual equipment, radio, dictation unit, digital camera, PassPoint machine, software programs, and other general office equipment.
CONTACT WITH OTHERS:
Offenders/defendants, family members of offenders/defendants, victims, employers, attorneys, other Courts/ Judges/ bailiffs, law enforcement agencies, Children’s Services, treatment program agencies, Department of Human Services, SEA, hospital staff, general public.
Court records which include criminal records, psychological records, urinalysis records, military records, treatment recommendations, presentence investigation reports, Courtview records, mental health and chemical dependency assessments, and progress reports. Shall adhere to the Ohio Revised Code regarding confidentiality of probation records [149.32(A)].
Good office working conditions when working in the office. When working in the field, employee is exposed to conditions within probationers’ homes, employment, and other locations. While performing duties of this job, the employee frequently sits for extended periods of time and occasionally stands and walks. An appropriate combination of education, training, course work, and experience may qualify an applicant to demonstrate required knowledge, skills, and abilities. An example of an acceptable qualification: Bachelor’s Degree in Behavioral Sciences, Corrections, or related field. Six years’ experience in probation, courts or correction services, including four years as an Adult Probation Officer. Training or experience in management/supervision.

Vacation leave may be granted to full-time employees upon completion of one (1) year of service with the Montgomery County Common Pleas Court, General Division. Twenty-six (26) bi-weekly pay periods in active status shall constitute one year of service.
