November 18, 2024
Montgomery County Common Pleas Court’s Director of Probation Services, Carlos Walker, has been elected as the President of the Ohio Chief Probation Officers Association (OCPOA). Walker’s election marks a historic milestone, as he becomes the first Black president of the association in a two-year term which will commence on January 1, 2025. This achievement underscores his dedication to probation services and his leadership within the field.
“As I step into the role of president of the Ohio Chief Probation Officers Association, I am deeply committed to the success of this field and everyone involved. This commitment is unwavering and will guide my every decision,” Walker said. “I am deeply grateful to God for blessing me with the opportunity to learn and positively impact people’s lives in Ohio.”
Walker, who has served as the Director of Probation Services at Montgomery County Common Pleas Court, General Division, for the past four years, brings over two decades of experience in probation and criminal justice. Before his current role, he was the Chief Probation Officer at Xenia Municipal Court for 12 years. Additionally, he served as a Probation Officer at Montgomery County Common Pleas Court for seven years, gaining invaluable insight into the needs of both the court system and those it serves. A proud alumnus of Central State University, Walker was the state of Ohio’s representative for the American Probation & Parole Association from 2019 to 2021, and he was recently appointed to the Ohio Judicial College Probation Training Committee. He serves on the board of TCN Behavioral Health and Sinclair Community College’s Sociology Program, and he is a member of the National Association for Blacks in Criminal Justice (NABCJ).
As the President of OCPOA, Walker will leverage his leadership experience to play a key role in shaping the future of probation services in Ohio, while continuing his impactful work in the Probation Services department. During his two-year term as president, Walker has several goals for the organization that he plans to work towards, including increasing OCPOA membership among probation departments statewide and advocating for increased salaries in the probation field. Another major goal is to focus on training and education.
Congratulations to Carlos Walker on this well-deserved achievement.
