Hon. Robert G. Hanseman
Judge Robert Hanseman was appointed to the Common Pleas Court Bench, General Division in 2022. Before his appointment, Judge Hanseman was a practicing attorney for 25 years and is licensed in Ohio and Maryland. He grew up in the Dayton area, attending Fairborn High School. He graduated from The Ohio State University cum laude in 1992 with a B.A. in Journalism in Political Science, then earned his law degree from George Washington University Law School. While in college, he served as a summer intern at the White House. He entered the Air Force in 1996 as a JAG officer and was promoted to Captain. He was lead prosecutor in numerous Court Martial trials and other criminal proceedings at Sheppard Air Force Base in Texas. He also served as Special Assistant US Attorney for the Northern District of Texas, were he prosecuted over 80 criminal cases.
Upon leaving the Air Force in 2001 he joined the Dayton-based law firm of Sebaly Shillito & Dyer, specializing in business litigation and serving as outside legal counsel to multiple Ohio based corporations. He has litigated before multiple federal agencies, including the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the National Labor Relations Board and the Government Accountability Office.
Judge Hanseman is a member of the Dayton and Ohio State Bar Associations as well as the Carl D. Kessler Inn of Court. He is a Trustee and past president of the Centerville Public Library, as well as the Centerville Washington Foundation. He is admitted to practice law in the United States District Court, Southern District of Ohio, the United States District Court, Northern District of Ohio, the United States District Court of Maryland, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces.
Judge Hanseman’s courtroom is courtroom 8. It is located on the fourth floor and is the first courtroom on the left hand side of the hallway.
