Judge Elizabeth Ellis

Judge Ellis was appointed to the General Division bench in June 2023.

Judge Ellis graduated from Denison University in 1997, receiving her B.A. in Communications and English Literature with a concentration in Renaissance Studies.  Judge Ellis also studied with the Advanced Studies in England through University College of Oxford, UK, and with the Ohio State University Moritz College of Law Summer Program at St. Anne’s College of Oxford, UK. She received her J.D. from the University of Dayton School of Law in 2001.

Judge Ellis first practiced with Legal Aid of Western Ohio before becoming an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for Greene County, Ohio.  Judge Ellis worked for Greene County for 18 years in the Juvenile, Appellate, Criminal, and Civil Divisions, serving as Chief Assistant of the Civil Division for 10 years. In 2021, Judge Ellis was appointed to the Appellate Division in the Montgomery County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

Judge Ellis is a member of the Dayton Bar Association, the Ohio State Bar Association, the Carl D. Kessler Inn of Court, and the Ohio Common Pleas Judges Association.

Judge Ellis is admitted to practice law in the State of Ohio; the United States District Court, Southern District of Ohio; the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals; and the United States Supreme Court.

Judge Ellis has volunteered for various community organizations, including the Girl Scouts of Southwestern Ohio, Oakwood Ballet, and the Dayton Ballet School.
